How to tidy a bathroom with safe, simple chores

Bathroom chores need a firm safety boundary. Children can reset towels, clothes and everyday items; adults should handle bleach, toilet cleaning, razors and unknown spills.

Updated .

Adult check first. Keep heat, sharp objects, chemicals, broken items, heavy lifting and anything uncertain with a grown-up. Choose jobs that fit the child, the room and today.

The small-job list

  1. Hang the towels

Hang damp towels flat on hooks or rails so they can dry. Put dry spare towels back on the shelf.

  2. Basket the dirty clothes

Put clothes and used washcloths in the laundry basket. Leave anything wet on the bath edge for an adult.

  3. Line up everyday toiletries

Put toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap and shampoo in their usual holders or trays.

  4. Clear the bath edge

Place bath toys in their draining basket and return safe bottles to one corner.

  5. Wipe visible water

Use a dry cloth to wipe water from the sink edge and taps. Stop if the floor is slippery.

  6. Replace the toilet roll

Put a new roll on the holder and place spare rolls in their usual dry spot.

If this is still too much

Choose one mission and stop there. Or set a visible five-minute timer and stop when it rings. The deal only works if stopping really is allowed. Read how to run a short timed tidy, or why the big version is not a useful task.
