How to tidy a bedroom, one small job at a time
A bedroom is rarely one mess. It is clothes, cups, books, bedding and small objects all asking to be sorted at once. Give each category its own finish line.

Adult check first. Keep heat, sharp objects, chemicals, broken items, heavy lifting and anything uncertain with a grown-up. Choose jobs that fit the child, the room and today.
The small-job list
Collect the dirty clothes
Put every dirty item in the laundry basket. Leave clean clothes where they are for now.
Move clean clothes to the bed
Make one clean-clothes pile on the bed. Folding is a later mission, not part of this one.
Carry dishes to the kitchen
Take cups, plates and bottles to the kitchen in one careful trip, or two small trips.
Return books to one shelf
Put every book on a shelf. Skip sorting by size, colour or subject today.
Box the loose toys
Put small toys into one open box or basket. Detailed sorting can wait for another day.
Straighten the bed
Pull up the duvet and place the pillows at the top. Finished is useful; hotel corners are not required.
If this is still too much
Choose one mission and stop there. Or set a visible five-minute timer and stop when it rings. The deal only works if stopping really is allowed. Read how to run a short timed tidy, or why the big version is not a useful task.
