How to break the laundry pile into small jobs
Laundry looks like one repeating job but contains several separate finishes. Children can sort, match and fold while adults keep control of machines, pods, liquids and stain treatments.

Adult check first. Keep heat, sharp objects, chemicals, broken items, heavy lifting and anything uncertain with a grown-up. Choose jobs that fit the child, the room and today.
The small-job list
Collect empty hangers
Gather loose hangers and put them on one rail or hook, facing the same direction if that helps.
Sort lights and darks
Make two broad piles. Ask an adult about bright colours, delicate items or anything wet.
Match the obvious socks
Pair socks that clearly match. Put single socks in one small basket instead of starting an investigation.
Fold towels
Fold towels into halves or thirds and stack them by size. Consistent is enough; perfect is not required.
Fold simple clothes
Fold T-shirts, pyjamas and leggings. Leave fiddly or delicate clothes for another mission.
Deliver one clean stack
Carry one person's folded stack to their room. An adult handles detergent and starts the machines.
If this is still too much
